Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has warned that the growing hostility in American politics—especially toward former President Donald Trump—risks undermining democracy itself. In a recent Fox News interview, Gingrich criticized Democrats for what he called “toxic rhetoric” and attempts to weaponize oversight. He urged both parties to return to enforcing laws fairly and stop treating political rivals as enemies.
“This isn’t just politics,” Gingrich said. “It’s personal, emotional, and dangerous. You can’t keep fueling outrage and expect stability.” He compared today’s tensions to historical crises, referencing Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address to question whether a deeply divided nation can endure.
Gingrich also defended Elon Musk’s role in government reform efforts, calling criticism of him “political theater.” He claimed the left resists change to protect the bureaucracy.
The former Speaker slammed Democrats’ behavior during a recent joint address to Congress, calling them “zombies” for refusing to acknowledge shared values. He warned of rising public distrust, citing polls showing most Americans view the system as corrupt.
Despite his harsh tone, Gingrich closed with a plea for unity. “You don’t have to like your opponent,” he said. “But they’re still part of your country. If we forget that, nothing else matters.”
