Man Who Spent 10+ Years in a Coma Wakes Up To Tell an Unbelievable Story

At 12, Martin Pistorius fell into a mysterious coma, losing speech and movement due to cryptococcal meningitis and tuberculosis of the brain. Though trapped in an unresponsive body, he was fully conscious, enduring years of silent isolation and emotional pain, including hearing his mother wish he were dead.

At 25, a breakthrough allowed Martin to communicate again. With technology, determination, and support, he rebuilt his life—marrying, becoming a father, and pursuing a career in web development.

His memoir, Ghost Boy, reveals the strength of the human spirit and the importance of empathy.

Martin’s journey from silence to purpose inspires others to persevere, reminding us that even in darkness, hope and healing are possible.
