What we know so far about the death of 6-year-old Gracelyn Vick

A small Mississippi community is mourning after 6-year-old Gracelyn Vick was found deceased hours after being reported missing. According to family members, she went outside around noon on Sunday to play in the yard of her home in Saucier but did not return.

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office launched an urgent search that lasted roughly six hours. Deputies were joined by nearby agencies, Gulf Coast Search and Rescue teams, drones, helicopters, and dozens of local volunteers. Authorities later confirmed that Gracelyn’s body was discovered near the family property.

Sheriff Matt Haley stated that no arrests have been made and investigators have not yet determined whether foul play was involved. An autopsy was scheduled at the state crime lab in Biloxi to establish the cause of death.

Grief counselors have been made available at Saucier Elementary as the investigation continues. Officials are urging the public to avoid speculation and allow investigators to complete their work.
