Trump Renews Allegations of Mortgage Fraud Against Senator Adam Schiff

Former President Donald Trump has reignited his feud with Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA), accusing him of mortgage fraud linked to a Maryland home purchased in 2009. Posting on Truth Social, Trump claimed Schiff misrepresented the house as his primary residence to secure better loan terms, calling him a “scam artist.” He alleged the fraud continued until 2020, though he provided no documentation. Schiff has dismissed the allegations as “baseless” and politically motivated.

The clash reflects years of animosity. Schiff rose to prominence during Trump’s first impeachment, earning Trump’s ire through sharp criticism and media visibility. After winning a Senate seat in 2024, Schiff remained one of Trump’s loudest critics, making him a frequent target of attacks.

At issue is whether Schiff improperly classified his Maryland property, which could have saved him significant money. Experts note that while mortgage fraud is serious, the claims lack evidence and may not constitute a crime. Many lawmakers maintain residences near Washington, and Schiff’s defenders argue his arrangements were legal.

The dispute comes as midterms near, with Republicans amplifying Trump’s narrative of corruption and Democrats accusing him of weaponizing conspiracy theories. For now, no investigation has been announced.
