Heroic Rescue at the Zoo
During a family visit to the Detroit Zoo, truck driver Rick Swope witnessed a life-threatening moment when two male chimpanzees began fighting. In the chaos, a less aggressive chimp named Jo-Jo fell into a deep, dirty moat and began to drown. While others watched in shock, Swope bravely jumped in. Despite warnings from zoo staff, he swam blindly in the murky water until he found Jo-Jo and pulled him to safety.
Jo-Jo, weak but alive, locked eyes with Swope in a moment of deep connection, as if to say “thank you.” Swope’s act of courage reminded many of the empathy we can share with animals, especially those with traumatic pasts like Jo-Jo, who lost his mother to poachers.
Power Strip Dangers You Should Know
Power strips are handy but can pose serious fire risks if misused. High-powered appliances like ovens, refrigerators, space heaters, microwaves, and washing machines should never be plugged into them. These devices draw too much electricity and can overheat the strip.
Avoid plugging in another power strip, and don’t use power strips for sensitive electronics unless it includes surge protection. Always check the wattage limits before use to keep your home safe.
