I wasn’t planning to stop. But on County Road 12, I saw four tiny boxer puppies huddled near a ditch — muddy, shaking, and alone. No mom. No nearby house. Just an empty box and a heartbreaking scene. I used an old hoodie to gather them into my car.

Three were unmarked. But the fourth wore a small red collar — frayed, with a brass tag that read one word: Hope.
That word hit me. Someone had cared for this pup once. At the vet, we scanned for microchips. To everyone’s surprise, Hope had one. She belonged to a family who lost her during a storm two weeks prior. When they arrived, they cried — overwhelmed to have her back. But the other pups weren’t theirs. Someone had likely abandoned the whole group, leaving Hope behind too.

The family welcomed Hope home, and I agreed to foster the rest. With help from the vet’s clinic, all three found loving homes within a week.
What started as a stressful morning became a powerful reminder: even when things seem broken, there’s always a little hope waiting — sometimes with a tag around its neck.
