Amanda quickly decided to help Bear, a lost and abandoned puppy spotted in the Evan’s Creek mountains of Washington. Alongside her friend Dylan, she tried to coax Bear with food and treats for over an hour—but Bear was too wary to approach. When they returned the next day, Bear remained in the same spot, still avoiding humans.

Thinking outside the box, Amanda came up with a unique plan: she would pretend to be in distress by lying down and “playing dead.” Curling into a fetal position, Amanda waited patiently. After about twenty minutes, Bear cautiously approached and sniffed her. Though he lost interest and walked away, he returned an hour later, this time simply sitting beside her.

Over the next two hours, Bear slowly began to trust Amanda, sensing her kindness. Eventually, Bear led Amanda and Dylan to their car, where they took him to a veterinarian for much-needed care.
Despite efforts by Lost & Found Pets Washington to find Bear’s original owner, no one came forward. Fortunately, Bear’s luck changed when a loving family offered to adopt him, giving the once-lost puppy a new home filled with love and safety.
