Former federal prosecutor Joe diGenova said the House could pursue contempt proceedings against Bill and Hillary Clinton after they declined subpoenas seeking testimony in the congressional investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
House Oversight Chairman James Comer announced the proceedings after both Clintons failed to appear for scheduled depositions. The committee subsequently advanced resolutions recommending that the House hold them in contempt.
DiGenova argued that any criminal prosecution could face significant challenges, particularly in Washington, D.C. The Clintons’ attorneys, meanwhile, have disputed the subpoenas’ validity and argued that their clients have already provided relevant information.
The dispute could ultimately move to the full House and, potentially, the Justice Department.
