A powerful magnitude 8.2 earthquake struck Alaska’s Peninsula late Wednesday night, triggering tsunami warnings across parts of southern Alaska and prompting Pacific-wide monitoring. The earthquake occurred at 10:15 p.m. local time at a depth of about 35 kilometers, southeast of Perryville. Warning sirens sounded in areas including Kodiak, while emergency operations were activated. Fortunately, no immediate injuries or major damage were reported. Tsunami alerts for Hawaii and Guam were later canceled, while authorities in Japan and New Zealand assessed potential risks. At least eight aftershocks followed, including two above magnitude 6.0. Officials continued monitoring coastal areas and evaluating possible tsunami threats.
