Authorities are investigating a possible pattern of deaths after eight individuals were found dead in New England over recent weeks, prompting public concern about a potential serial killer.
On April 22, a woman was found unconscious on a bike path in Springfield, Massachusetts, along the 1500 block of Hall of Fame Avenue. Police and medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene. Ryan Walsh, spokesperson for the Springfield Police Department, confirmed that the Homicide Unit, led by Captain Trent Duda, is working with the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office, pending an autopsy.
Although the cause of death has not been released, the case has drawn attention due to a series of other recent deaths. Between March and April, eight people—mostly believed to be women—were found dead in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Human remains have been discovered in areas including New Haven, Norwalk, Groton, and Killingly.
Despite rising speculation online, authorities have dismissed any confirmed links. Walsh told Fox News Digital that the rumors are unfounded. Connecticut State Police echoed this, saying there’s no current evidence of a connection or public threat.
Peter Valentin of the University of New Haven noted the cautious language used in official statements, possibly to avoid escalating public fear.
