“Better get your rest now, because your work is just beginning.”When a new member joins a police department, the swearing-in ceremony is usually a moment of pride and anticipation. For one very young recruit in Bristol, Rhode Island, it was also the perfect opportunity for a nap.The Bristol Police Department welcomed Brody, a 12-week-old Chocolate Labrador, as the first Comfort and Therapy dog in its history. The event was streamed live on the department’s Facebook page, drawing in viewers who quickly fell in love with the sleepy newcomer. While Police Chief Kevin Lynch spoke about the importance of the day, Brody curled up on the desk and slept soundly. He stayed that way through most of the ceremony, waking only briefly to pose for a few photos before returning to his rest.

His handler, Officer Keith Medeiros, stood in for him during the official proceedings. Speaking later to The Dodo, Medeiros explained, “He plays really hard, and he sleeps really hard. When he’s not playing, he’s sleeping, which is kind of tough because he sleeps a lot.”
The video of the swearing-in has been viewed nearly a million times, with viewers amused and charmed by the young K-9’s relaxed approach to his big day. One comment read, “Better get your rest now, because your work is just beginning. Woof.”
Chief Lynch expressed his excitement, saying, “This is a very big day for the Bristol Police Department and for our future. As soon as Brody wakes up, we will have a lot of successes ahead, and he is going to be a superstar for the town of Bristol. I can guarantee it.”ce is already making a difference. “People are really stressed, especially in law enforcement,” Medeiros said. “Just by walking in the police department with Brody, people immediately smile. They immediately get into a better place. They want to pet him, want to hug him, and it’s just a really good thing.”
Though his career is just beginning, Brody has already shown that he has the heart for the job. For now, his biggest responsibilities are to grow, learn, and get plenty of rest. Judging by his first day, he has mastered that last part.
