Police Officer Breaks Into Car to Save ‘Baby’ — But It Wasn’t What He Thought
On a scorching day in Keene, New Hampshire, Officer Jason Short received an urgent call: a baby had been spotted alone in a parked car outside Walmart. Fearing the worst, Jason rushed to the scene, where he saw what appeared to be an infant wrapped in a blanket. Without hesitation, he smashed the car window with his baton and pulled the seemingly lifeless “baby” from the vehicle.
Jason began performing CPR and called for an ambulance, while a crowd gathered around. But something didn’t feel right. The baby’s pale skin and strange texture raised doubts — until Jason realized the truth: it wasn’t a baby at all. It was a hyper-realistic doll.
The doll’s owner, Carolynne Seiffer, returned to find her window shattered and a crowd surrounding her $2,000 lifelike doll, named Ainsley. Carolynne, who owns about 40 such dolls, uses them to cope with the loss of her son.
Though embarrassed, Officer Short said he had no regrets: “I would always assume it’s a child. I’d never risk a life.”
The incident, while surprising, highlights the importance of acting quickly in potential child endangerment cases — even if, thankfully, it turns out to be a false alarm.
