When the storm swept through town, sending people running for cover, seven-year-old Ethan didn’t follow. Through pounding rain and rising water, he spotted a small dog tied to a fence, its paws barely above the flood. The animal’s eyes were wide with fear, the rope around its neck tugged tight by the current.
Without thinking twice, Ethan charged into the water. His heart pounded, his fingers froze, but he fought to free the rope cutting into the dog’s neck. Soaked and shaking, he cradled the trembling pup in his arms and carried him home through the storm.
At home, his parents wrapped the little dog—now named Stormy—in a warm towel and sat beside the fire. Slowly, the shaking stopped. For the first time in a long time, Stormy felt safe.
From that day on, Stormy followed Ethan everywhere, his tiny shadow and loyal friend. When someone asked why Ethan risked his life, he just smiled and said,
