Five-year-old Saylor Hayes was found dead Monday in a South Carolina waterway after disappearing from her family’s vacation rental in Pawleys Island. The nonverbal child had wandered away Sunday while visiting from Virginia. Authorities launched a massive search involving law enforcement agencies, drones, K-9 teams, divers, watercraft, helicopters, and hundreds of local volunteers. Saylor was wearing a light blue bathing suit and a tracking device when she disappeared. After an overnight search, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources agents found her body around 9:45 a.m. Monday near where she was last seen. Authorities have not yet released her cause of death, and the investigation continues.
