A tragic accident on Brazil’s Rodovia do Sol in Espírito Santo claimed the lives of 26-year-old mathematics professor Maicon Ataliba and his 19-year-old girlfriend, Ingrid Moreira. The couple had stopped on the shoulder of the ES-060 after their Chevrolet Cruze suffered a flat tire when a Chevrolet S10 reportedly struck the vehicle at high speed.

Both victims were taken to nearby hospitals but later died from their injuries. Ingrid’s teenage brother, who was also in the Cruze, survived but was injured.

Police said the S10 driver showed signs of intoxication and was taken into custody for further investigation. The incident remains a painful reminder of the dangers faced by motorists stopped along busy highways.
