In 2016, Michael Joy faced every dog owner’s worst nightmare: his three beloved dogs got loose. Two returned, but Sam, a 4-month-old Lab cross, remained missing. Michael searched everywhere—local shelters, the neighborhood, and beyond—but there was no sign of him. Eventually, the family moved to Kentucky, but Michael never gave up hope. He even made regular trips back to their old home in Georgia, hoping Sam might still be there. Almost five years passed without success.

Then, one day, out of nowhere, Michael received a call from City Dogs Cleveland. Sam had been scanned for his microchip after a medical exam, and the shelter traced him back to the Joy family. Michael drove eight hours to Ohio, filled with anticipation. When he saw Sam, the excitement was mutual—tail wagging, jumping, pure joy.

Finally reunited, Michael and Sam can now enjoy life together. That’s love, persistence, and a very lucky dog! 🐾❤️
