The ocean lost one of its bravest guardians.

The incident occurred near Goat Island around 1 p.m. Witnesses reported multiple bite wounds, and lifeguards recovered his body via Jet Ski. Perry was pronounced dead at the scene.
More than a film star, Tamayo was a revered lifeguard and waterman, serving the community through Honolulu Ocean Safety for eight years. Mayor Rick Blangiardi paid tribute, saying, “His heroic actions and tireless efforts to ensure safety will never be forgotten.”

Born and raised on Oahu, Perry was a Pipeline expert and surf mentor. Alongside his wife Emilia, he co-ran a surf school, teaching others to love and respect the waves. “He left this world doing what he loved,” Emilia said.
Surfers, celebrities, and fans are mourning across the globe. Kelly Slater summed it up best: “You truly lived the life you loved.”
Tamayo Perry wasn’t just a surfer or actor — he was a symbol of aloha, courage, and community.
