A chilling ransom note sent to TMZ claims that Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie, is “safe but scared” and fully aware of the demands being made for her release. The message, delivered two days after she was reported missing from her Tucson home, demanded millions of dollars in bitcoin and warned of “consequential” repercussions if the terms were not met.
TMZ founder Harvey Levin said the note included disturbing insider details, suggesting it was not a hoax. According to Levin, the message referenced Nancy Guthrie’s Apple Watch and a damaged floodlight at her home—details that had not yet been made public. That information immediately raised alarms and prompted TMZ to contact authorities.
Investigators, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, have confirmed they are treating the note seriously, along with others sent to different media outlets. Some messages reportedly included deadlines for payment.
Chris Nanos, the Pima County Sheriff, said authorities believe Nancy Guthrie is still alive and remain focused on bringing her home safely. No suspects have been identified, and the investigation remains ongoing as the family pleads for proof that she is alive.
