A Chance Encounter
“Because I see something special in you,” Daniel said gently. “When I was your age, strangers helped me. I made a promise to do the same.”
Kayla studied his face. She had learned to be wary, but something about him felt different. Holding her brother Ben closer, she asked, “What kind of chance?”
An Offer of Hope
Daniel stood, kind yet steady. “A chance at a better future. You can stay with me. You’ll have food, a safe place, and school. No more fear of being separated.”
The store grew quiet. Even Mr. Oliver, once skeptical, now watched with softened eyes.
Kayla hesitated. “What if we don’t want to stay forever?”
“You don’t have to,” Daniel said. “This is your choice. When you’re ready, I’ll still be here.”
The Power of Kindness
An elderly woman entered, sensing the mood. “What’s going on?” she asked.
Daniel smiled. “Just a change of plans for these two.”
The woman turned to Kayla. “You’re very brave.”
Emotion swelled in Kayla’s chest. She looked at Daniel. “Okay,” she whispered. “We’ll go.”
A New Beginning
As they left, hope stirred. Kayla didn’t know what lay ahead—but for once, she believed in tomorrow.
