Jimmy Kimmel says he has an Italian “backup plan” as political tensions continue to surround late-night television. The 57-year-old host revealed on The Sarah Silverman Podcast that he obtained Italian citizenship, describing it as a possible escape from Donald Trump’s presidency.
Kimmel’s comments came shortly after Trump criticized Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon, declaring that both hosts would eventually leave late-night television.
The remarks come as the late-night industry faces declining ratings and major changes, including Stephen Colbert’s planned exit from CBS.
Kimmel has also spoken about cancel culture and the political climate, while Fox News host Greg Gutfeld recently praised some of his comments.
