Gary Sinise, the acclaimed actor known for his role as Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump, has shared the heartbreaking news of his son’s passing. McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise died at age 33 after a five-and-a-half-year battle with a rare spinal cancer called Chordoma. Diagnosed in 2018—just months after his mother Moira’s own cancer diagnosis—Mac’s journey was marked by strength and resilience.

Despite enduring multiple surgeries and eventually becoming paralyzed from the waist down, Mac remained committed to his passions. He worked at the Gary Sinise Foundation and was a talented drummer, even performing with his father in the Lt. Dan Band. A graduate of USC’s music program, Mac completed his final album, Resurrection & Revival, shortly before his death. The family plans to release it in his honor.
