A parking dispute outside a Walmart in North Lauderdale ended with the fatal shooting of 62-year-old retired Army Staff Sergeant Diguglielmo. Prosecutors said surveillance footage captured the confrontation, including his movements around a vehicle before approaching Payne’s car. Payne told investigators that Diguglielmo challenged her to shoot him, though that detail was based on her account. Payne fired one shot, striking him in the abdomen. He later died at a hospital. After reviewing surveillance footage, witness statements, body-camera recordings and other evidence, prosecutors determined that Payne’s fear of serious harm was reasonable under Florida’s self-defense law. She was granted immunity and will not face criminal charges.
