We are all born unique, each person carrying traits that make them unlike anyone else. For Nicole Lucas Hall, that belief guides how she raises her children, Asher and Winry. When Winry was born in February 2021 with congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN), a rare birthmark covering part of her face, Nicole chose to see beauty—not flaw.
According to Good Morning America, Winry’s appearance drew attention from the very beginning. Nicole, whose pregnancy had been routine, first thought the mark was a bruise. Doctors reassured her that Winry was healthy, and soon the family focused not on difference, but on love.
CMN can appear as light or dark brown patches and, as noted by the National Organization for Rare Disorders, may vary in size and carry certain health risks. Winry’s parents carefully protect her skin and monitor her health.
Today, Nicole shares her daughter’s story to encourage acceptance. To her, Winry is not defined by a birthmark, but by her joyful spirit and radiant personality.
