After a complex separation surgery, doctors fought to stabilize twins Heloísa and Helena when their conditions suddenly deteriorated. The sisters suffered severe complications, including cardiac arrest, but despite the medical team’s efforts, they could not be saved.
Plastic surgeon Jayme Farina Júnior said the twins had endured numerous health challenges throughout their lives, including respiratory problems and previous procedures.
Their separation involved several surgeries over the course of a year, with more than 50 medical professionals participating. Earlier procedures focused on separating shared brain tissue and blood vessels before the final operation.
The sisters were laid to rest on August 16 in São José dos Campos. Their story remains one of courage, family, and extraordinary medical dedication.
