President Donald Trump has proposed renaming New Mexico “New America,” claiming the change could boost home values, incomes, and state pride. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham rejected the idea, defending the state’s historic identity and criticizing Trump’s focus. She also challenged his election allegations and highlighted child care and health care policies. Since New Mexico’s name is protected by its state constitution, any official change would require a formal legal process. For now, the proposal remains a political controversy without demonstrated economic benefits.
