The annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner was thrown into chaos when a gunman identified as Cole Tomas Allen allegedly attempted to breach security at the Washington Hilton. Armed with a shotgun, handgun, and knives, he was quickly subdued by Secret Service agents before reaching the ballroom where President Donald Trump and other officials were gathered. One Secret Service agent was struck in the protective vest but survived. The event was canceled following the incident. Authorities described Allen as a lone actor, and investigations into the attack and security procedures continue.
