A massive 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the China-Myanmar border early this morning, shaking millions awake and leaving widespread destruction across three countries. Dozens are confirmed dead, hundreds injured, and many feared trapped under collapsed buildings.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported a shallow 10 km epicenter, amplifying the quake’s impact across southern China, northern Thailand, and Myanmar. Survivors described walls cracking, furniture moving, and homes collapsing within seconds. “At first, it felt like a truck rumbling past,” one resident in Yunnan recalled. Entire villages in Myanmar’s Shan State were reduced to rubble, while Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai faced extensive structural damage.

Streets are strewn with debris, broken glass, and collapsed roofs. Families fled with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Videos show buildings swaying, temples damaged, and residents screaming amid the chaos.

Temporary shelters are set up in schools and stadiums, while hospitals struggle to handle crush injuries and broken bones. “We have no home, no work, and no way to rebuild right now,” said a shopkeeper in Shan State.
