A major fire erupted at Chinachem Tower in Hong Kong’s Central district, sending thick smoke across the busy business area. Flames rapidly spread through bamboo scaffolding and protective coverings outside the building, forcing dozens of people to evacuate. Four people were hospitalized, including two who were initially in critical condition. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly five hours before bringing it under control. Despite the dramatic damage to the exterior, Hong Kong’s Buildings Department confirmed that the tower remains structurally safe. Investigators are now examining whether renovation work, welding sparks, discarded cigarettes, or flammable materials contributed to the fire.
