Boy, 14, found dead in fire — 14 kids arrested

The quiet town of Gateshead was shaken by tragedy when 14-year-old Layton Carr was reported missing. Days later, his body was found in a burned-out building at Fairfield Industrial Park. What shocked the community even more was the arrest of 14 children—ages 11 to 14—in connection with his death. All have been released on bail as the investigation continues, with police treating the case as manslaughter.

The derelict building, often used as a teen hangout, became the site of unthinkable loss. Layton’s family described him as a “cheeky, happy lad” with a heart of gold. “Layton, we love you more than any words can ever explain,” they wrote. “You will be missed more than you’ll ever know.”

His school community is also grieving. A teacher shared, “He’ll be missed in every hallway, every classroom.” A GoFundMe page for his mother has raised over £18,000, showing just how many lives Layton touched.

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Jenkins urged the public not to speculate online, warning that sharing misleading content can be harmful and illegal.

As the investigation continues, one truth remains: Layton’s life ended too soon, but his memory will live on in the hearts of many.
