One day, photographer Rebecca Rood visited the Whitfield County Animal Shelter and noticed a terrified dog named Stewart hiding in the corner of his kennel. Shelter staff told her that Stewart had been found tied up in the woods near Dalton, Georgia, with a tight leather belt painfully cutting into his neck. He was so scared he growled when they tried to help him.
Rood was deeply moved by his fear and took powerful photos of Stewart, sharing them on Facebook. Her post reached Courtney Bellew, director of SNARR (Special Needs Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation). Bellew quickly rescued Stewart, bringing him to a vet clinic where the belt was removed during sedation.
Afterward, Stewart’s transformation was incredible. He began wagging his tail and playing—finally feeling safe. Though he still has emotional healing ahead, Stewart is on his way to finding a loving foster home. With care and patience, Stewart’s future now looks hopeful.
