A Strange Evening Begins
The evening started quietly. I was folding laundry when Lili suddenly shouted, “Mom! She has something in her mouth again!”

“Who?” I asked.

“Marsa! A puppy! Another one!”

I rushed to the window. Our tabby cat, Marsa, was crossing the yard with a tiny black puppy in her mouth. In the corner of the living room, a basket already held four others — warm, soft, and sleeping peacefully. Marsa gently added the new one, curled around them, and purred like a proud mother.

But… where was she getting them?

An Unexpected Knock
A knock at the door startled me. A policeman stood with our neighbor, Mrs. Miller.

“Do you have a cat?” he asked sternly.

“Yes,” I replied, heart racing.

“A litter of puppies disappeared this morning,” he said. “Your cat was seen carrying them away.”

Mrs. Miller added softly, “They were mine. Their mother died… and Marsa took them. Like she knew they needed her.”

A Happy Ending
She watched Marsa cuddle the pups and smiled.

“Let them stay,” she said. “I think she’s the mother they need now.”

I nodded, and Marsa purred louder, pulling the puppies closer. Somehow, she had known.
