Cosmo, a lovable Saint Bernard, looks like the cuddliest giant around—but his start in life wasn’t easy. As a puppy, he was abandoned by his breeder and taken to the Hearts United for Animals shelter in Nebraska. Nobody knew why, and poor Cosmo seemed confused by his sudden change. Still, he greeted staff with gentle friendliness, waiting each day for the chance to find a forever home.
That chance came when Jayne, living in upstate New York, spotted Cosmo’s profile online. She instantly fell in love, but there was one challenge—he was over a thousand miles away. Undeterred, Jayne flew to Nebraska, rented a car, and drove Cosmo all the way back to New York. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573537220192
At first, she worried he might not take to her, but Cosmo quickly showed his sweet nature. “I don’t know if he understands what’s happening,” Jayne said, “but he knows there’s a human here who wants to give him love—and he’s happy about it.” During the long road trip, Cosmo rested quietly, occasionally nervous but always calm.
When they arrived home, he explored cautiously before settling in with Jayne’s two dogs, Poppy and Grendel, and even a giant rabbit. Finally, Cosmo had space, comfort, and a family to call his own.
