It happens in an instant. Someone points it out, and the Coca-Cola logo changes forever. The second “C” in “Cola” stops looking like a simple flourish and begins to resemble a smile. Once seen, it is almost impossible to ignore. The script, created in the 1880s by Frank Mason Robinson, was intended to be elegant, not expressive. Yet our brains naturally search for familiar patterns, especially faces and emotions. Decades of association with happiness, celebration, and togetherness reinforce that impression. The logo itself never changed; our perception did. Sometimes meaning emerges not from design, but from the human mind interpreting it.
