Long-serving Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina has reportedly died following a sudden illness, according to statements cited in the report. Emergency responders were called to his Capitol Hill residence Saturday night after a possible cardiac arrest was reported. Graham, 71, was chairman of the Senate Budget Committee and was seeking another six-year term. His death prompted tributes from President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Graham had recently traveled to Kyiv to discuss the war in Ukraine and efforts to strengthen sanctions against Russia. South Carolina officials are expected to determine how his Senate seat will be filled.
