Legendary singer-songwriter and actor Kris Kristofferson passed away at his home in Maui on September 28, surrounded by family. He was 88.Born in Brownsville, Texas in 1936, Kristofferson was a Rhodes Scholar, Army helicopter pilot, and later became one of the most influential figures in country music.Known for writing classics like “Me and Bobby McGee”, “Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down”, he helped define the outlaw country era and formed The Highwaymen with Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings.Kristofferson also had a successful film career, starring in A Star Is Born (1976), for which he won a Golden Globe. He retired from public life in 2021
