In a heartbreaking scene in a remote field, a two-year-old Lurcher was discovered tightly chained to a metal fence post, trying to nurse her six newborn puppies. The pups, too young to open their eyes, had been left without food, warmth, or water.
Rescuers, alerted to the distressing situation, believe the mother was abandoned shortly after giving birth. Despite her restraints, she did all she could to care for her tiny litter.

Thankfully, all seven dogs were taken to the International Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ (ISPCA) National Animal Facility in County Longford, where they received immediate medical care. Miraculously, both the mother and puppies were in good health.
The puppies—affectionately named Billy Ray, Dixie, Dolly, Dottie, John, and Patsy—will stay with the ISPCA until they are old enough to be adopted into loving homes.

This rescue serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership. The ISPCA continues to stress the need for neutering to help reduce the number of unwanted animals and prevent tragedies like this.
Thanks to quick action and compassion, one mother and her babies now have a future filled with hope—and the promise of safe, loving homes.
