She gave birth to five puppies in an open field, exposed to cold, rain, and lurking predators. Weak and malnourished, she still tried to care for her babies. When rescuers found her just in time, she was exhausted, barely able to move. The puppies were crawling with fleas and ticks, their bellies swollen with worms. The mother was equally infested, starving, and desperately clinging to life.
