On a warm summer day in Massachusetts, Lauren Lynde and her husband took their golden retriever, Wally, swimming at Hickory Hills Lake. While paddling in the water, Wally had an unexpected encounter—a wild woodchuck leapt onto his back, using him as a ferry across the lake. Amazingly, Wally stayed calm, swimming gently toward shore with the woodchuck aboard. Once near land, the woodchuck hopped off, gave Wally a brief nose-to-nose farewell, and disappeared into the woods. Wally, ever the friendly soul, returned to swimming without missing a beat.
