Hollywood icon Richard Gere has shocked fans with his decision to permanently leave the United States and settle in Spain with his family. The 75-year-old actor, known for films like Pretty Woman and American Gigolo, has sold all of his U.S. properties and publicly declared he will not return, stating, “I don’t want to breathe the same air as Elon Musk.”
Gere cited deep concerns about America’s political and social climate, particularly the growing influence of tech billionaires like Musk. “The concentration of power and wealth in the hands of people like Musk is alarming,” he said.
Joining him on this bold new chapter are his wife, Spanish publicist Alejandra Silva, and their children. The family has long admired Spain’s culture, lifestyle, and slower pace of life. “Spain offers us peace and values we want our children to grow up with,” Silva shared.
While some have criticized Gere’s political stance, others praised his courage and authenticity. Though now based in Europe, Gere plans to continue acting, possibly expanding into European cinema.
His move is more than relocation—it’s a personal stand reflecting deeper concerns about leadership, culture, and the world he wants for his family.
